Notes

I am using a modified chart #44 from Anna Zilboorg’s book Simply Socks. I reversed the hook pattern. I am using madelinetosh for the braid, wave and heel colours. Japanese Noro yarn and handspun alpaca for the rest of the sock. The Handspun is the main background colour.

I cast on 72 stitches and began with a Latvian/Estonian/Turkish Braid.
row 1:k1 with main colour,k1 with contrasting.
Begin the braid with both strands in front of your work. Alternating your strands by taking the colour to be knit to back of your work, knit the stitch and then bringing it to the front again.
row 2:Continue alternating the colours but this time always bringing the new yarn under the one just used.
row 3: k1k2 always bringing the new yarn over the one just used.

I then knit the hook pattern on page 66 number 21 the top chart but reversed it. This makes it look like Hokusai’s wave to me. (These were begun pre-tsunami).
1 plain row, wave pattern, 2 plain rows 1 row k1main colour, k1 contrasting…, then 1 more plain row with main colour decreasing 2 stitches.

I then began the revised chart page 116 number 44. I cut outone of the middle 2 plain rows and added a few contrasting stitches to the plain row that remained. Chart to follow later.

Planning to do the top sole on page 124. Or perhaps I will use an old persian chart that I have. I have not yet decided. I am using Madelinetosh merino light for the wave and coloured heel parts, handspun and Noru kureyon for the main part of the sock.

It is thanks to Debbie that I have the wonderful book that this pattern came from - Anna Zilboorg’s book on Turkish Socks. Thank you, Debbie.
