Notes

update: okay, finished now but I still need to write up the notes. But as we are leaving for vacation (YAY!) that won’t happen until January. I will take better pics then too, perhaps. Maybe, I can even get DS to model them. I thought the one at the top looked really funny on the right, then realised it was the thumb. silly me.

Mixing together a couple of cuffs from Marko’s Mittens and Liidia’s gloves together from Nancy Bush’s Estonian Mittens and then using a latvian pattern for the body of the mitten graph 6 from Lizbeth Upitis’s Latvian Mitten book. I am so not good at following directions without changes…oops. I will put more details/chart up later.

Using an unknown creamy white yarn with drops alpaca in a blue with red ‘glints’ and a madtosh variegated.

These mittens will be for our very darling son at Christmas. He goes to Penn in Philadelphia, U.S. and I think it is very cold there. Just hope he won’t lose them. I am still thinking of turning them into fingerless mittens. What I should do is make them fingerless with a cover but I doubt that I will this time. Well…. maybe. In that case, I should change the title of this to Herding Porcupines JustNancy’s funny description of knitting thumbs in the IMakeMittens forum. I dislike doing all those fingers. At least they are shorter than gloves.
