picot in dark reddish purple (the colour is ever so much prettier in person than the photo above - it has a jewel like depth that I really like) for 10 rows; k2tog,yo for 1 row, k3 rows then switched to pale cream. K 8 rows and then began graph 68, page 76 in the Lizbeth Upitis Latvian Mitten book with the first dark line in the dark purple.

For the thumb placement, began in the centre of the first flower of the main body chart k2, knit in waste yarn for 15 sts to hold my place for the thumb, then went back and continued in pattern for the rest of the mitten. Planning to continue in pattern for outside of thumb but a chevron for ‘mitten side’ of the thumb.

3 March, 14: all done but the thumbs - my goal for this weekend - Well it is 24th July and i have finally finished the thumbs. I let these languish for quite some time but at least she will have them for this Autumn when the cold arrives. Put a V monogram on the inside thumb since her name is Vicki.
