Notes

Here is where I found some wonderful Alphabet charts put together by chemknitsblog. I will be using the Old English Alphabet.

I have put in a picot hem instead of 2 rows ribbing. I cast on with lapis (MC) and knit for 12 rows changing to citrine, I knit one row, one row of k2tog, yo…, then another knit row citrine and then back to the lapis for another 12 rows stitching the provisional cast on with the current row to form the hem. Then one more row in citrine . I used 1.75mm needles for the hem and then changed to 2mm needles with chart A.
Using the dark brown for the background of Chart A. Otherwise all the main colour is in lapis with the alternate colour in citrine.

I did the thumb in size 2mm needles a size larger than the larger than the body as these are for an elderly lady with swollen thumbs. I also cut down the pattern a bit at at the top or they would have been too long, beginning the decreases 4 rows early. They fit very well.

This is wonderful yarn - sooo soft and very nice to work with. I hope that they will help warm and soothe an elderly ladies hands this winter and many more to come. I am told she likes to wear mittens indoors in the coldest winter months.
