Began with a cast on of two colours k I, k1 with every other colour and then added an Estonian band at the top using the chart from Traditional Stitch Motifs by Stephanie van der Linden’s wonderful book Around the World in Kitted Socks. Then one row background colour - mc, in my case Antler, one row alternating my two colours 1,1, another mc and then I began the zilboorg chart.
Be Careful! as the chart must be started at the top and go down if you wish to get the pretty diamond in the right place at the toe. The way the pattern is written is very pretty too but different. It has stripes for the toe.
I’m listing this under madelinetosh’s Zilboorg pattern because I used her basic pattern and numbers and just added the cuff chart mentioned above and changed the sole pattern to a basic 1-3-1 pattern. I did the heel and toe also from tosh’s zilboorg pattern. This is an old Turkish motif found in many places. Anna Zilboorg’s # 29 from her book Simply Socks shows it. Stephanie van der Linden kilim is based on it and of course one finds it in Professor Kenan Ozbel’s wonderful book on Turkish socks. I found that madelinetosh’s pattern was very well written and fit me perfectly. One of the things that I like best about her pattern is that not only is the fit perfect for me but she has the pattern end in a very pretty diamond at the top of the toe. I adore her yarns as well. Such beautiful colours and a nice halo without being overwhelming the pattern. The colours are jewel like.
I found a wonderful new way to do an afterthought heel here. That is what the brown line is in the progress photo at the bottom- where the heel will go after I finish the rest of the sock first. Before I had always made a provisional cast on. I like this way much better, it is much ‘neater ,cleaner and easier’.

The fit is perfect!!I really ADORE these socks- both the yarns and the patterns are wonderful. They are so very, very pretty and comfy. And I must admit that I also like my additional band at the top. I think that it goes very well with this sock. Along with my Estonian Socks from Tricotant’s pattern these are my absolute favorites so far.
