I’m not gonna lie, this is one of the most challenging things I have ever knit! A cable row takes me 21 minutes to knit and a non cable row, 10 minutes. And that is without looking at the directions. I find i must use a small cable needle because the stitches are so small i cannot just slip them off to hold them…they have a tendency to drop :( So yeah, this is taking forever. Would also recommend putting in lifelines because frogging is torturous…

getting down to the end of the skein. and at 6” total length. ea row takes approx 2 yards.I’ll need 3 more body repeats (6r x3 rpts =18 r x 2 yds = 36 yrds and crown is 16 r = 32yds for a total of 68 yds

12-18-2015 Survey

  1. What type/weight of yarn did you use? Fingering / 4 ply 75% Merino, 25% Nylon
  2. What size hook/needle did you use? US 2 ½ - 3.0 mm
  3. Were you able to obtain gauge with these? yes
  4. How much yarn did you use (estimated yardage or weight)? 241 yds, 55 gr
  5. Did the project come out to the dimensions specified? Unblocked came out to a 14”w X 9.5” h. When I put it on my head it was tighter than I like and I also found it did not want to stay on my head. For reference, my head is 21”. I blocked it on a Styrofoam women’s sized head to 19”w by 8” h. Now it is more of a beanie and I love it!
  6. Was the pattern layout easy to read and follow? Yes
  7. Did you work from written instructions or from charts? written
  8. Were the instructions, charts, pictures, etc. presented in a logical way? Yes
  9. Were there any rows (or parts of the pattern) you found confusing? Which ones and why? Getting in the groove was tough for me. Once I got past the first 2 sections/charts, I was good. I have never worked a pattern that incorporates so many different cables in one row 
  10. Did you find any errors in the pattern (that were not already mentioned in the thread)? If so, where? Yes 2…chart 1 needed 4 RC and chart 2 row 19 needed correction
  11. Were the illustrations, photographs, and/or diagrams helpful? Yes
  12. Were there any specific techniques for the pattern that were not explained well? No, all good
  13. Were there any symbols or abbreviations you felt were not explained well? No
  14. How much time (in hours) did it take you to complete the project? 30 hours
  15. How would you rate the difficulty of this pattern? Why? Using the Ravelry scale of difficulty (1-10), I rate this a 7…the highest “medium”. Lots going on in every single row…twisted stitches, many different cables and many cables used in the same row. This project required my full attention on every row. Frogging was torturous and I had to do that a couple of times . Recommend people use a lifeline.
Additional Comments: This is such a beautiful pattern. I learned a lot. Thanks for letting me test!
