Like every knitter who has made a Sackboy/Sackgirl dance, jump, and jetpack across the textile world of LBP, I realized that I couldn’t live without making one myself. Even better: the iconic default Sackboy is more than obviously an iconic default KNITTED Sackboy.
Add a LBP-obsessed little brother and a co-worker with a girlfriend who feels exactly the same way and voila! Excuses to knit not one, but TWO Sackboys.
This is attempt numero uno, lacking stitching and with a whole lot of fuzzies that need to be tamed.
I followed the Alan Dart pattern for the most part, deviating only to add an open mouth and movable arms and legs.
This little dude will receive a hat and be gifted to my co-worker and her girlfriend. Sackboy attempt two will be for the little bro.
In addition to yarn and stuffing, construction materials include:
-
Button eyes (glued; I didn’t like the look of them standing out from Sackboy’s face)
-
One large zipper (glued shut from behind and painted silver)
-
Doll joints
-
Embroidery floss
-
One balsa wood circle, cut in half and glued (front and back) to black felt
-
Red felt (tongue)
-
Sewing thread and a whole lot of trial-and-freakin’-error to attach the mouth to the knitted head
-
Improvised internal support system to keep the Sackhead from slouching on the tiny Sackneck (ie. a bundle of clipped and de-pointified skewer sticks)
-
Cat hair. Lots and lots of cat hair.
