About Us
Gloria’s mother Emy, who had been knitting “for a century” as a hobby, decided one day that she wanted to sell yarns. 15 years ago, when Border Leather Corporation moved to the Broadway location, a small section of the building was allocated for Emy to display and sell yarn. Her enthusiasm grew, and before long the “hobby yarn shop” ordered a full UPS truck load of yarns. This was the beginning of a whole new focus. Everyone was happy to see Emy enjoying this new endeavor.
It didn’t take long for yarn supply companies to hear of the new yarn shop in Southern California. Yarn sales reps started showing up wanting to get their yarns in the shop. Emy consulted with Gloria on which yarns to buy. Both ladies bought thousands of skeins of yarns and surrounded themselves with many colors, textures, fibers, and accessories.
After Emy passed away, Gloria was honored to continue her mother’s tradition and couldn’t be more proud to watch the business grow into what it is today. Currently, we have over forty thousand skeins in stock!
Gloria began to host daily knitting and crocheting classes for the customers. Word in the fiber community started to get around, and more and more people started to come and spend their mornings or afternoons working on their projects and building friendships.
This name change reflects a renewed focus on yarn, knitting, and crocheting. The name is changing, but they people are not. Myer, Gloria, Miguel, and Luz will still greet you and answer all of your fiber-related questions. We’ll still be the largest local yarn store south of Los Angeles. We will still be stocked with a kaleidoscope of yarns and a spectacular inventory of accessories - including Addi and Lykke needles (straights, circulars, and sets) and Clover crochet hooks in all sizes.
Rest assured, that while the name of your favorite fiber store in southern California is changing, you still get the same expertise advice and connection to other fiber enthusiasts. We’ll see you in the store soon!
