Home Farm, which has been in existence for over 500 years, is located in the Cotswolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the middle of England. This once-derelict, but now fully operational, farm spans 150 acres of ancient ridge and furrow.
We arrived in Autumn 2006, and our first Winter at the farm saw the arrival of 5 stray sheep looking for food in the snow. Within a few weeks I was hooked, and 3 of them are still here, at the top of the garden, along with an ever- growing flock of 350 Wensleydale and Bluefaced Leicesters that roam across the rest of the farm.
Our sheep are sheared annually, just in time for their summer holidays, and their fleeces are sent off to Yorkshire to be scoured and then spun at a traditional mill. Our wool is soft, lustrous and 100% natural; the only things we have added are grass, water and lots of TLC…
I was born above my mother’s wool shop in Sunderland – ‘Warriner’s’, High Barnes – and I could knit before I could write! And I suppose my early days might help to explain why I am now nuts about sheep and passionate about producing the best British rare breed wool.
And if you buy our wool, not only will you be getting the very finest quality, but you will also be helping to secure the future of traditional British rare breed farming, scouring and spinning.
There is a public footpath running through most of our land following the Battle of Edgehill Trail. You are more than welcome to contact us and meet the sheep while you are on this walk or would like to visit our farm and see the wool and its growers (the sheep!!)
Best wishes
Jayne
