“Coat of Many Colors” is a single-thickness afghan. The chevron pattern comes from differently shaped pieces, not from laying squares over one another.

The pictured afghan contains 9 motifs. The pattern includes a chart for a 10th motif. You can create additional motifs by filling in half notes to make quarter notes and vice versa.
