Crochet: Cowl
This cowl is a great learn to crochet project. It starts with a round of single crochet, then rounds of half-double crochet, double crochet, and a chained loop trim. By the end, hundreds of each stitch have been worked. Throw in some slip stitches at the ends of the rounds and you have all the basics to move onto other projects. There are only ...
Knitting: Tee
This is a quick-to-knit tee in just 2 pieces. Knits up on US 9 needles, the sleeves are increased to the front and back. Shoulders are short-rowed for a clean, flat look. Pattern stitch involves two rows of 2x2 rib, and 2 knit rows. Or knit up in stockinet stitch. The brightly colored sweater was done in seed stitch with garter trim, in Noro Ta...
Knitting: Pullover
This top is knit in a T-shape, with the sleeves increased to the body at the armhole. Because the stitch pattern is mostly all garter stitch and lace, I was able to use a loosely spun finer yarn on a larger needle to give the drape I wanted for this design. This DK weight yarn knit up with just the right hand on a US9 needle. Experiment with DK...
Knitting: Cowl
I was trying to make a sample from only one skein of this yarn. I wanted something with texture. Slip stitches always add a little more interest to a striping yarn and are easy to do. Danube has the same yardage as Noro Kureyon or Silk Garden. Either of these are perfect substitutes to use with this pattern.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl is knit from the center neck, increasing in length and width. The pattern is written for one skein of Manos Maxima, which produces a scarf-like shawl which is more wide than deep. The lace is very basic. Feel free to use any yarn and knit until the shawl is the size desired. I used the same pattern with the Done Roving Gradient DK, b...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat uses one skein each of Noro Silk Garden and Silk Garden Solo. The mosaic slip stitch pattern is a super easy way to get colorwork in your knitting, and the striping effect of the Silk Garden gives color change without changing colors. The repeat of the mosaic pattern is only 8 stitches, making it easy to change the size if necessary.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
This baby blanket is made from 9 different stitch pattern blocks. The pattern offers 2 different cast on amounts to help vary the size of the blanket. The smaller cast on was used for this bulky blanket so that 2 squares could be made from each skein, using 4 1/2 skeins for the blanket. I used the second half of one of the skeins to crochet a bo...
Knitting: Poncho
This poncho is one long rectangle that gets folded in half and seamed. I found this stitch pattern in Melissa Leapman’s “The Knit Stitch Pattern Handbook” which is a collection of 300 fantastic stitch patterns. Check it out. The way the k2tog’s and ssk’s bias in opposite directions give this pattern its distinctive look. It is not hard to do. I...
Crochet: Beanie, Toque
This hat is crocheted from the top down in one long spiral. Fewer or more increase rounds can be done to change the size of the hat. The patterned body of the hat is worked on a multiple of 6 minus 1, so adjust your number of stitches if changing the pattern to reach the multiple by the time the double crochet pattern starts. I used 64g of the ...
Knitting: Vest
Mountain Colors Bozeman comes in a big 8 ounce chunk of hand dyed, thick and thin lusciousness. I wanted to make something out of just one hank that was not an accessory. This vest uses the whole hank. If you need a bigger size, you will need two. There are no increases, decreases, or neck shaping to disturb the lace pattern, which is not diffi...
Knitting: Sleeveless Top
The front and back of this sweater are rectangles, knit the same. The lace is very open and reversible, with yarn overs in every row. I provide hints as to which stitches fall in the yarn overs to keep you on track. The pattern repeat is provided so the size can be easily changed. You can also go to a smaller needle to make the fabric a little ...
Knitting: Scarf
I love the way the edges curve with the combination of stitches. I framed the pattern in stockinet to smooth the edges as it rolls under. I have included instructions for changing the width.
Knitting: Sleeveless Top
This sweater is very simply constructed from 4 rectangles - 2 on the front and 2 on the back. The top rectangles are knit first side to side, with a simple lace pattern added for interest. The bottom 2 rectangles are picked up from the long edge of the top rectangles and knit down to the length you want. I have provided instructions for changin...
Knitting: Cardigan
This cardigan is worked in pieces from the bottom up with raglan shaping. The tucked rib is worked for 12 inches because the are no front bands to pick up or buttonholes to make. The stitches are allowed to roll under along the fronts and around the neck. The extra ribbing helps the bottom of the sweater to lay flatter. There is short row shapi...
Knitting: Vest
This is truly a beginner vest It is like knitting 6 scarves, then assembling them into a sweater. The Tosca Light is a slow striping yarn. Since all of the pieces are approx. the same width, the striping stays uniform, instead of changing to narrower stripes on wider pieces. The pieces will be easier to sew together if they all have the same nu...
Knitting: Scarf
This lace pattern is worked on an odd number of rows and is totally reversible. It works on any even number of stitches and makes a great shawl or sweater.
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf uses short rows to create triangular wedges across the scarf. Since this scarf is worked in stockinet stitch, the edges will roll in a bit even after blocking. It can be worked in garter stitch to make it lay flat, but will have a different look, a slightly heavier feel, and use more yarn to make the same size.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque, Fingerless Gloves
This hat and fingerless mitt combo uses a broken rib pattern to create a light texture. Both pieces are very stretchy for a more versatile fit. A 6-stitch pattern repeat makes it easy to adjust the size.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl uses short rows and eyelets to create a fun zigzag pattern across any rectangular piece. The yarn overs are double wrapped to make them extra large. I did not work any wraps on the short rows. I just turn and go back on the short rows. I spaced the turns so they would fall in the yo’s and not create extra holes. It makes it much fast...
