I made 4 towel holders from a skein of 2.5 oz and I still had yarn left over. If you have a larger oven handle, simply add more rows before making the button hole. Gauge is not important, but I would read the label of whatever cotton you are using and follow the instructions for the hook, so that your stitches are secure around the hair tie.
