Unique ARMHOLE FINISHING TECHNIQUE is worked-as-you-go. Requires no other armhole finishing! So minimal finishing is required to complete this cute summer top. Gauge is 5 sts and 6 rows per inch (2.5cm).

This pattern uses 4 colors of fingering wt yarn (makes great stash buster). Color A (edging) = Approx 125 yards, Color B and C (stripes) each aprox 70 yards and Color D (body of shawlette) approx 160 yards variegated yarn. Uses US #3 (3.25mm) and US #4 (3.5mm) needles.

Lady Mary is the eldest daughter at Downton Abbey and in search of a suitable husband. She is dressed for parties and events where an acceptable suitor might be in attendance.

Daisy of Downton Abbey is the Kitchen Maid and every time I see her on the series, I think of sepia tones. The yarn used for this is sepia in nature, but with some green thrown in for good measure.

Gwen was a housekeeper in the first season of Downton Abbey. We all loved her spunk and desire to be more than a servant, or “in service” as she states. Her white apron worn over the black dress had scalloped edges, hence the scallops on this small shawlette, called a “shoulder scarf.”

Anna is the head housemaid and provides care for the three daughters in Downton Abbey. The apron she wears over the black uniform has a beautiful eyelet edging. Anna’s Shawlette has a knit-on edging that is reminiscent of this edging. In fact it is a knitted lace edging from an issue of “HomeWork 1891.

This is a scarf that probably Carson would wear when he is off duty at Downton Abbey. The scarf is a type of Gansey knit pattern, so the needle size and yarn show the stitch definition.

This scarf is knit in 2 halves and joined with a unique join in the center - pictures and direction are in the pattern. The deep chevron ends and repeats throughout the scarf remind me of ballet dancers, cheerleaders, ice skaters and others who leap through the air.

The hoopskirt knitting stitch used in the scarf reminded me of Tutus and Ballerinas. So I used Pink Panther yarn for the rows that would create the skirt and white for the rows that would resemble the bodies of the dancers. Of course any color combination would work well.

An all-over cable design finished on the ends with Corkscrew tassels. Not too challenging, but looks more difficult than it really is. Knitting cables on the first 8 stitches and the last 8 stitches of the scarf creates interesting edges.

This scarf is knit with 2 strands of yarn held together throughout. The scarf uses 7 basic colors and there are multiple color changes from Goldenrod on one end to Teal on the other. This scarf is not difficult to knit, using a 3:1 ribbing stitch for the body after a ruffled beginning edge.
