This pattern calls for Joy Sock but it can be crocheted in any weight yarn, just simply stop when you feel that the shawl is big enough. It is worked from the nape of the neck outward, so you can try for fit as you crochet.

This is a basic pattern you can follow using any hook or yarn size, simply stop when you’ve run out of yarn or your garment is the desired size! I like to use a hook size or two larger for a more drapey and loose garment. I always add fringe.

This free pattern was written with new knitters in mind when I taught a seminar at Texas State University. This is one of the patterns I gave out for free to my knitting students. The buttonholes are a nice challenge, but not necessary. Enjoy!
