eBook : 3 patterns

Shifting Sisters is what I like to call a “progressive knitting” series, where each pattern directly builds upon the previous pattern in the series. In this trilogy, the first pattern, Lift A Twist Beanie, sets up a k1, p3 stitch pattern that will be used throughout the series. I also introduce my new special left twist technique in the first pattern. In the second pattern, Slip Up Beanie, we will use the same k1, p3 base pattern with the left twist, and will add on an additional technique, the slip stitch, to continue building up our stitch pattern. In the third pattern, Lane Shift Beanie, we take the same base k1, p3 st pattern, add in the left twist, add in the slip stitch, and finalize our stitch pattern with the third technique, the right twist. Each pattern can be knit individually for a beautiful result, or knit all three for a fun knitting progression. This e-book includes the full version of each pattern, with a photo tutorial at the very end, so you only have to print the pages you need. Or, use the document electronically to make use of the links and video tutorials. To keep everything organized, the page numbers are chronological, but the name of each pattern is at the bottom, so things don’t get mixed up.

In The Wind beanie, headband, and cowl patterns were inspired by the signature hot air balloon patterns of ascending rectangular blocks that spiral up the envelope. This is a very beginner friendly pattern that only utilizes knits and purls, with basic decreases for the crown. This pattern includes instructions for how to knit the entire piece ...

This pattern set is the companion set to the Slip Up Beanie pattern set and the Shifting Sisters E-Book. These patterns use a special left twist technique created by yours truly. The Slip Up patterns are the second step of the Shifting Sisters Progressive Knitting series. This pattern includes instructions for headbands and cowls in bulky, ligh...

The Uno Reverse Beanie is named after the singular direction change that forms the basis for the design. By switching from right purl twists to lifted left twists, it creates a beautiful, textured sideways chevron design. This pattern uses my special lifted left twist technique, seen also in my Shifting Sisters pattern series. What’s great abou...

Have you ever heard of exposed aggregate concrete? It’s a concrete mixture that has larger pebble chunks in it that stick out, or are exposed, when the concrete dries. Diaggregate beanie and headband is named after the pebbled texture (exposed aggregate) created from this stitch pattern. Where does “di” come in? These pebbles move in a diagonal...

When I’m knitting, I love a fun texture and a little bit of interest in a pattern. What I don’t like is doing techniques that interrupt the flow of my knitting. I love the way cables look, but I don’t love stopping to pick up a cable needle, or trying to manage stitches by dropping them off my needle. In theory, this type of pattern would be my...

Slip Up Beanie is the second pattern in a three pattern “progressive knitting” series. This pattern takes a skill that was introduced in Lift A Twist Beanie and adds on an additional knitting element. The original skill introduced is doing a k1, p1 left twist without the need of a cable needle, or having to release live stitches off the needles...
Knitting: Cowl, Earwarmers
The Uno Reverse headband and cowl patterns are named after the singular direction change that forms the basis for the design. By switching from right purl twists to lifted left twists, it creates a beautiful, textured sideways chevron design. There are two pattern options: single color and two color. The two color option for each item has its o...

Are you or someone you know a walking red flag? Need to give a subtle (or maybe not so subtle) hint? Maybe even a warning to others? If any of the above are true, then this is the pattern for you! Don’t want to be overt about it? Tell them it’s a modern variation of a Houndstooth pattern. In fairness, the flag pattern can be knitted in any colo...

The Flip Out pattern set is so named because the items in this set are knitted inside out. At the end, you’ll flip the pieces outside in to reveal the beautiful stitch pattern. Why knit inside out? Firstly, because the basis of the fabric is a purl background, having the purl side of the cast on creates a cool “infinity edge.” Secondly, many kn...

This pattern set is the companion set to the Lift A Twist Beanie pattern set and the Shifting Sisters E-Book. This pattern includes instructions for headbands and cowls in bulky, light super bulky, and super bulky weights.

Lane Shift Beanie is an ode to road work that I’m sure we’re all familiar with (at least in America). Let’s all visualize it together. Imagine driving down an eight lane wide highway with road construction going on. You see the sign, “ Lane Shift Ahead,” and suddenly at 60mph, everyone gets to do the highway version of the Cha Cha Slide, “Veer ...
Knitting: Cowl
Holt’s Cowl is a Fair Isle style, stranded color work pattern inspired by my wonderful son, Holt. Using three colors, this pattern creates a beautiful tree motif, topped with North Stars. The pattern is written for two yarn weights: light worsted and bulky. There is a companion hat pattern for sale through both Etsy and Ravelry.
Knitting: Headband
If you think of a spindly, old witch sitting in her thatched roof hut, elbows propped on her small, wooden table, her long, arthritic fingers intertwined, you’ll get the name for the Witch Fingers Headband. This pattern consists of a scallop-edged, twisted cable design. The piece is knit flat and sewn together with a sandwich fold. However, bec...

Cowl Be Back Beanie (and Headband) is a fabulously textured, chevron pattern with instructions for both a beanie and a headband. Both patterns are written for three yarn weights: Super Bulky, Bulky, and Aran/Chunky. There are written and charted instructions for both the beanie and headband. Both objects are sized to fit a 19” to 22” head. This...
Knitting: Cowl
Cowl Be Back is a performance sized cowl meant to fit close to the neck, as a piece that can easily be kept on under a closed jacket. At this size, it can also be folded in half and worn as an earwarmer/headband. This is a simple knit/purl texture in a chevron pattern, which makes it a great beginner pattern.

The Bunny Stitch Beanie knitting pattern is crafted using a special Hazel’s Daisies created stitch, called The Bunny Stitch. This beanie is made up of rows of “bunnies,” which can be customized with different and unique color combinations. The pattern is written for four sizes, with two decrease options for each size, in Super Bulky yarn, such ...
Knitting: Mittens
Whiskey Barrel Mitts use a unique, Hazel’s Daisies original technique - the Cheater’s Braid, to create interesting horizontal knit striping. Because of the way the Cheater’s Braid works, it’s possible to do tons of different color combinations across the body of the mitt and on the stripes themselves! It’s a pattern that really allows the creat...

It’s the time of the year when the dark comes early and the cold it brings chills you to the bone Your breaths appear in long cloud bursts against the twinkling of the winter lights. Run Your Race beanie is a simple, in-the-round, bottom up, stockinette pattern, with a unique horizontal braid element that I call the Cheater’s Braid. The pattern includes a full photo tutorial and an exclusive video tutorial link included with the paid pattern.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Whiskey Barrel Beanie is a simple bottom up, in the round, stockinette knit beanie with a unique side laying braid element; let’s call it “Cheater’s Braid.” Why call it Cheater’s Braid? Because this is a very easy “cheat” to replace the complicated stitch work used in other types of braids.

Knitting: Tee
Named for what I’ve been craving most since the pandemic struck, this tee is sure to be a conversation starter! Socialization Tee is a modified, drop-shoulder tee with a boatneck-style neckline. Socialization Tee is knitted sideways in one piece, and includes notes on how to customize the length. This tee can be knitted a size larger to be worn...

Berretto Sofisticato is an adult sized beanie knit fair-isle style with two colors. There are only four rounds with six stitch long floats; the rest are five or fewer. You can catch your six stitch floats, or let them stretch (I did), but the little bit (or no catching) helps this beanie knit up fairly quickly. The pattern comes with full writt...

Within the Willows is a slouchy beanie pattern that uses up to three different colors in a single row; but only requires the knitter to knit with a max of two strands at a time. “How,” you ask? The magic of the Willows ;)

Barrington Station Beanie pays homage to this gorgeous colorway’s original name: Train Graffiti. The allure of the train, watching and riding, has always drawn me in. When I was little, we would sit on the fence at the local rain yard and watch freight trains roll by. When we lived in the NW burbs of Chicago, we loved taking the Metra into down...
