Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This is a plain (vanilla) style sock that can be made with leftover sock yarn (LOSY). The pattern describes several ways to use your leftovers, including a method of knitting in the ends to avoid the dreaded sewing-in of ends at the finish of the project. Alternatively, use a single skein of yarn to produce well-fitting socks.
Knitting: Hot Water Bottle
A cosy and bright cover for a standard sized hot water bottle (22cm x 36cm) knit in mitered diamonds. The diamonds are knit onto each other so there is only 1 seam at the bottom. Triangles fill the gaps at the top and the bottom. Stitches are then picked up at the top and knit in the round to complete the cover.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
A garter stitch blanket using mitred shapes to create a patchwork look blanket. Size is suitable for a baby or toddler but the pattern is easily made bigger.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Thick socks knitted with 2 strands of 4 ply held together (or a single strand of 10 ply). Knitted toe up, with an eye of partridge heel cup using German short rows, and a slipped stitch heel flap. Designed using a sizing guide from Aussies Knitting for War Affected Kids.
Knitting: Cowl
A lace pattern meanders along this neck warmer to produce an item that fits snug to keep out the winter chills - perfect for tucking into a coat or jacket. Use a soft and smooth, non-scratchy 8 ply yarn.
Knitting: Scarf
Dimple Shale is a variation of Old Shale - a classic Shetland Lace pattern. It creates a soft wavy rectangular scarf. It can be knit in 8 ply (DK), 4 ply (fingering) or 2 ply (lace weight).
Knitting: Washcloth / Dishcloth
A simple knitted cotton cloth - face cloth, dish cloth or cleaning cloth, based on the Chinese Waves Cloth pattern but knit diagonally so you can use any weight yarn and knit until it is the size you want or until half your yarn is used up.
Knitting: Scarf
This is a simple scarf knit in garter stitch. Instructions are provided for 3 variations and ideas given to create your own unique version.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat gives you a chance to play with colour. It uses simple charted motifs and stranded knitting to produce a one of a kind hat - you choose which motifs you use, and in which order to make your own unique hat.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
This simple but effective variation on feather and fan or ripple stitch produces a soft and squishy pram-sized blanket without holes for a new baby.
Knitting: Washcloth / Dishcloth
This cloth is knit using a variation of feather and fan stitch without holes to produce a textured cloth with gentle ripples.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
Fingerless mittens knit in two colours of 4ply or fingering weight yarn. The pattern suits variegated yarns paired with a contrasting solid. The use of simple twisted stitches and knit and purl stitches gives an interesting lattice effect on the back of the mitten, while the palm side has a simple striped pattern.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This a simple hat that can use up those part balls of 8 ply you have left over. Get creative with your colour combinations.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
The spiral rib pattern creates an effective look when knit with self-striping yarn or change colours yourself in your own stripe pattern.
Knitting: Coffee / Tea Pot
A quirky tea cosy knit with DK yarn and embellished with plastic pony beads. The pattern has a picture tutorial on how to place the beads. Knitted flat in two pieces which are seamed together.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Sand Swirl Slouchy Hat is a slouchy style beanie knit in the round from the brim upwards using circular needles and magic loop. DPNs could be used.
