Medicine Hat, Alberta is called the ‘Gas City’, because it sits on top of a wealth of natural gas. Aside from the natural gas, it has incredible natural beauty and the HUGE, clear skies have allowed us see some of the most incredible sunrises and sunsets we have ever seem.

The Stare: Gentle Giants was inspired by the documentary, ‘The Woman Who Loved Giraffes.’ It’s the story of Dr. Anne Dagg, a Canadian Zoologist, who dedicated her life to the study of animal behaviour, in particular, Giraffes. It’s an incredible film, one worth a watch, maybe while you knit this hat. ;)

After seeing my pattern for ‘the Stare’ hat, my husband said it would be funny to have the same image on socks and to make it look like it was peeking out of your shoes. Credit when credits due, it was a great idea, so I give him (and you), ‘The Stare Socks’

This hat was designed with the heart of the prairies in mind. It’s the province with the big blue sky, the wheat fields, the prairie lilies and a whole bunch of passionate Football fans. I’m talking about Saskatchewan. If wearing a watermelon rind on your head at a Roughriders home game doesn’t keep you warm, this hat will do the trick!

’Classic Margaret’ is a tribute to my mentor, Margaret Taylor, a woman whose class level can never be matched. She started as my store manager and eventually became my mentor for my own managerial career. She handled business the same way she handled herself, with confidence, intelligence, grace and integrity. A true Classic.

Alberta. It’s one of Canada’s prairie provinces. It’s the home of the Calgary Stampede, a Dinosaur Provincial Park and North America’s largest mall, West Edmonton Mall. The list could go on and on and by the end of it, proud Canadians will be nodding their heads and thinking, ‘Aww Yeah, Alberta.’

So, here was the situation. 4 years ago, when I first learned to knit, I was showing my first few finished projects to my friend Noel. I then promised I would knit him something and send it in the mail.

The shape of cables reminds me of relationships and where this pattern is concerned, it reminds me of the friendship between my mother, Rodina (Dean) and her best friend, Lori.

This hat is dedicated to my favourite actress, Emma Thompson. I think she’s awesome. She’s a brilliant actress, but also an incredible woman. She’s an advocate for the environment, a humanitarian, a fighter of social injustice, has an incredible sense of humour and to top it all off, she’s a Dame. A literal Dame. She’s also a class act. She’s t...

This hat is my way of paying homage to my favourite actor, Daniel Day-Lewis. Back in the 90’s, I saw (what was to become my favourite movie), ‘In the Name of the Father’ and was blown away by the story (it’s a true story, unbelievable, you should watch it) and the performances. Since that film I have been in awe of the talent that Daniel Day-Le...

This hat was inspired by the Province of British Columbia. I’m a B.C. girl born and raised and it is absolutely the best place on earth. It’s rich in community, culture, heritage and most of all natural beauty. To fit everything that B.C. has to offer into one project would be an impossible task, so the design has been heavily influenced by the...

My sister Megan is a teacher and she inspired this hat. While she helps children learn, my hopes are that this hat will help knitters to do colourwork. The pattern design is a simple 4 stitch repeat that staggers as the hat is knit up. It gives the knitting the opportunity to practice catching floats and to do stranded knitting while using both...
