Knitting: Cowl
This is an amazingly versatile cowl pattern that can function as a frigid-weather necessity or a beautifully drapey accessory. Simple written and charted instructions enable the knitter to create the piece that is perfect for them. The choice of yarn will also influence the thickness and drape factor, and suggestions are given for using your ya...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
Slipped stitches and the easiest of cables combine to make a fascinating repeating pattern that highlights the beauty of any sock yarn. From wild contrasts to even solids, your yarn is the star of the show in these intensely textured stitch patterns that are suitable for men and women alike.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl was designed in an effort to capture the beautiful simplicity of gentle curves. The lines are soft and easy on the eye, but also strong enough that a knitter need not be afraid to use multi-colored yarns that sometimes detract from more delicate lace. Solids and semisolids will also create a beautiful effect.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This sock is a tribute to one of my favorite books: Bleak House by Charles Dickens. The plot is so deliciously tangled and involved, and yet resolves into a beautiful story with truly admirable characters. This sock uses a deceptively simple cable that is truly impressive when worked over an entire piece, and will make your socks look like a co...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The lancet arch is a variety of pointed arch in which each of the arcs, or curves, of the arch have a radius longer than the width of the arch. It takes its name from being shaped like the tip of a lance. The lancet window is one of the typical features of the Early English (13th century) period in Gothic Architecture. Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This pattern was inspired by the German pattern Regenbogen Zopf. I’ve modified it to work for fingering weight sock yarn and added a mirrored set of cables and a unique short row heel that allows for continuation of the design movement through the heel. The unique toe also allows for a trim finish to the design.
Knitting: Christmas Stocking
This is the pattern I wrote to facilitate teaching a class. It is an introduction to knitting in the round, Fair Isle, short row heel, changing yarns, and grafting the toe. Inspiration for the charted Fair Isle pattern came from Alice Starmore’s Fair Isle Knitting book.
Knitting: Skirt
This skirt was inspired by a skirt I found in a catalog. The first version I knit was for my older daughter when she was about 4. I shared pictures with some friends, one of whom asked me to do another version, in another color scheme, for an older girl of 12. Using simple mathematics, these versions can be made for any size.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
According to Mr. Webster, a catenary curve is assumed by a cord of uniform density and cross section that is perfectly flexible but not capable of being stretched and that hangs freely from two fixed points. My friend and amazing test-knitter Bonnie provided me with this term as I was trying to describe the aspect of this shawl that I found so ...
