Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I designed this luscious little hat for a friend, who wanted something a little different to the usual range of baby hats. The pattern is clearly laid out with photographs and charts for the stylised bee pattern, small Fair Isle motifs and star crown. I have added a written pattern for the crown for those who find it easier when decreasing.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This pretty beanie with a flower motif is inspired by the breath-taking flowers of the Machair, we encountered whilst walking the Hebridean Way this summer. Designed in soft Rowan Felted Tweed, a fine DK, Merino Alpaca mix and knitted in the round on 3.50 needles, which are smaller than the recommended size making it snuggly warm with good stit...
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These striking’Walk in the Woods’ Fair Isle gloves coordinate with the much loved ‘Walk in the Woods Beanie’. They are designed for beginners to stranded knitting in the round but are fun to knit whatever your skill level. The basic thumb can be made as; wrist warmers with no thumb opening, simply as a ‘cast off - cast on’ opening or with a fin...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Following the success of my ‘Walk in the Woods’ pattern published last Autumn, I have designed a winter colourway and introduced some new motifs. Like the original, this beanie is perfect for learning, practicing and even designing your own Fair Isle, also for working in the round. It is also a fun knit for those experienced in Fair Isle. The d...
Knitting: Mittens
The Summer Garden gloves are knitted in the round either fingerless, as mittens or with a button back top and designed longer to gather at the wrist. The striking ‘Summer Garden’ colourway gives beautiful contrast making the patterns easy to follow.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I designed the Erin hat for my lovely daughter, a nurse and has worked so hard this year! It is a generous slouchy hat in a Fair Isle design of seven colours and a corrugated double rib making it thicker, which is comfortable and flattering. The rib also provides the option to fold back to show a plain rib. I used Rowan Felted Tweed, a soft and...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
The inspiration for my Fuchsia designs came from the window box at the front of our house, which delighted our neighbours this summer.
Knitting: Stocking
I have used Rowan Felted Tweed in this stunning, quirky long pixie/stocking hat. The wool/alpaca mix creates great texture and softness and the tweedy colours blend beautifully together. The pattern is knitted on 3.5 circular or double pointed needles, to create a firmer stitch in the felted tweed. There are 4 sizes from children’s to adult, de...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This beanie is perfect for learning, practicing and even designing your own Fair Isle. But also, a fun knit for those experienced in colour work. The patterns are simple peerie patterns, (small Fair Isle patterns) 3 or 4 row of 3 – 6 stitch repeats. The pattern lays out a suggested order and colour way design, building complexity of stitches as...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I used Drops (Garn Studio) Big Delight 100% wool to knit these fabulous textured hats. It is soft and gives a slightly fluffy effect which is warm and stylish. However, any multicoloured Aran yarn could be used for similar results. A simple slip stitch and splitting the 100gm ball, knitting 2 rows in one colour then starting at a different colo...
Knitting: Cardigan
This pretty baby cardigan is knitted in DK soft, light, wool cotton. It is designed with a delightful stranded heart motif and attractive garter stitch rib.
Knitting: Animal Toy
Ruffles loves to ‘shake a tail feather’ and gossip with her pals. A button hidden inside her body enables her to sit comfortably on her nest.
Knitting: Softies - Other
You can really have fun with these little ones, being creative with hair, skin tone and accessories. They perfect size for small hands to clutch or stitch a loop into the top to make a quirky Christmas tree decoration.
Knitting: Pixie Hat
I used Debbie Bliss Luna 100% cashmere to knit this first baby’s hat for its softness and luxury, 4ply Alpaca or a baby cashmerino mix would also work well. The stranded motif is a 12 stitch pattern repeat and requires basic skills in stranded knitting. It is knitted as a newborn size but is very stretchy and may fit up until 6 months. Careful ...
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These beautifully soft stretchy gloves are quick to make and a 25gm ball of Rowan Alpaca Merino is just enough to make one pair of short rib gloves. Two balls will be needed if you are making the rib longer. alternatively you can use Drops Air which is a 50 gram ball.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
I used Rowan Milk Cotton to make this pretty blanket. Rowan Summerlite or Sublime Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK would also work well. It is knitted on a slightly smaller needle (3.50) than recommended on the yarn sleeve to maintain a better shape. It is still soft and drapes nicely.
