Knitting: Pullover
Based on Gru from Despicable Me, this cuddly turtleneck feels like wearing a hug. I wore it as part of a Halloween costume where I also wore the Gru scarf I knitted, a black leather jacket, and black slacks; and I clipped small plush Minions all over me.
Knitting: Scarf
I loved the movie Knives Out. As a knitter holding a film degree, I especially enjoyed the costuming choices, and I naturally wanted to replicate some of the knits from the film. I found a few imitations of Marta’s colorful scarf, but none of them got the colors quite right. I decided to make my own. It isn’t perfect either, of course, but it’s...
Knitting: Mittens
I’ve been stumping for Bernie Sanders for over twenty years, so I was super excited to see him finally have a shot at the White House. Like many people, I noticed his large, cozy brown mittens on Inauguration Day and of course the explosion of memes that followed. Y’all willing to put him everywhere but the White House. Oh well. At least the pr...
Knitting: Baby Blanket
I made a trellis stitch baby blanket for a friend as it is a simple pattern easy to memorize and which can also easily be adjusted for size. Gauge only matters to get the pattern to look right; the size can be any size you want.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I first started watching Last of the Summer Wine around 2005, and I of course wanted to knit Compo’s sage green cabled hat. I looked online and could only find other people looking for the hat or bad patterns, so I snapped and made my own pattern. Compo wore a few other hats throughout the series, though (including a dark green ribbed hat and a...
Knitting: Scarf
This a simple, pretty unisex scarf which works in a variety of colors and gauges, though I wouldn’t recommend anything too lacey. The scarf can pair with either a casual or a dressy outfit.
Knitting: Sleeveless Top
The shirt is fairly close-fitting, with the logo for the Dead Kennedys on the front. It can be made with long sleeves, short sleeves, or no sleeves at all. I used Lion Brand Microspun yarn, but any double knit weight will do.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
I designed this blanket for a friend’s baby whose heritage was Lebanese on his father’s side and predominantly German and Irish on his mother’s side. I used the pine cone pattern to represent the Lebanese side of the family (because of the pine tree on the Lebanese flag), oak leaves as the symbol of Germany, and obviously Irish moss stitch to r...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I first started watching the British comedy Last of the Summer Wine in my senior year at UT. My favorite character was William “Compo” Simmonite, who was known for his knitted caps. He wore a sage green cabled beanie most often, so I naturally wanted to make one. I scoured the Internet searching for a pattern, but all I found were other people ...
