Crochet: Cowl
Mitzi is a crocheted cowl. The directions are for creating it in the shape of a Moebius--so you just go round and round in a ripple pattern. Two colors makes stripes and add interest. This cowl is easy to make once it is set up. The beginning instructions are very detailed so that you can begin the mobius shape properly. Beads are not strung on the yarn until Round 6. You can make it longer but not wider. It is also a good project for using up several leftover sock yarns.

Frieda is a crescent shaped scarf. It is designed for 2 sizes, using 1 or 2 skeins. It can be knit in one or two colors and has optional beads knitted into a garter stitch band. A crocheted chain cast-on is advised--once done, the knitting is easy. Both scarves fall into “pleats” which makes them very flattering.

Cozy Nellie is a circular cowl. It’s cozy because you hold a strand of fingering weight yarn (about 40 g) and a strand of fine mohair/silk (15 g) together. Cast on is easy because you do it flat and then join the stitches in the round.

Filomena is a crescent shaped scarf that can be made with one or two skeins. It starts with a beaded chain edge, then knit stitches are picked up. Decreases are made every row as you work your way through bands of garter stitch and stockinette which have a series of “lace” flowers with a bead in the center.

Evita is a crocheted scarf, showcasing Tunisian Entrelac. Since only 8 stitches are on the hook at one time, you can use a regular hook that does not have a tapered shaft. Color is very important! The solid and variegated yarns must be in high contrast so there is no blending or blurring of colors.
