The pattern consists of a repeating pattern of axolotls around the crown of the head. Play around with the colours, or add / subtract rows above or below the pattern to customise the perfect hat for...

Done up in a beautiful pumpkin colour, this hat is a perfect expression of fall! The hat features two squirrels facing each other with a large and small acorn between them, and a border of small acorns above and below. The pattern is repeated on the back of the hat as well. This pattern creates an only slightly slouchy hat or beanie, but you ca...

Jigglypuff is the latest instalment in my Pokemon series which has grown to include Pikachu, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Gengar, Mew, and Snorlax. Experienced stranded knitters will enjoy the challenge of carrying 4 colours over 4 rows. To simplify, the eyes can be embroidered over the body colour. Take your time and unravel your yarn whenever you n...

Eevee is the natural next pattern to add to my Pokemon series which has grown to include Pikachu, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Gengar, Mew, and Snorlax. Most rows include only two colours, but there are a few where you’ll have to manage three strands, which definitely puts this at an intermediate to experienced knit. Take your time and unravel your y...

I designed this pattern early in 2023 to pay hommage to Saskatchewan, where I grew up, and of course the Saskatchewan Roughriders. I’ve been shocked at how few knitting patterns there are out there!

Mew is part 5 of my Pokemon series which includes Pikachu, Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Gengar. This particular pattern is challenging, using as many as 4 strands at a time. You can simplify the pattern by stitching the eyes overtop, or by using the same colour for both Mew and the background. I leave you to decide your own level of difficulty.

Witches are my favourite part of Halloween! Combine this with my general obsession with gnomes and the result is this cute wrinkly witch hat that sits in the palm of your hand. Work the hat as written with medium weight yarn to outfit a gnome or other stuffed animal or ornament, or increase / decrease the size by changing your yarn weight or ho...

Gengar is a mischievous looking Pokémon with colors that really pop in a hat. This is my tribute to Gengar in hat form. Wide spacing between colors makes this a challenging stranded knitting hat with several rows of long runs. I recommend using an intarsia approach for the eyes and mouth. Depending on your comfort with stranded knitting, you mi...

Bulbasaur is a family favorite. This is my tribute to Bulbasaur in hat form. This is a challenging but manageable stranded knitting hat with several rows of long runs. Several rows will require you to manage 3 colors, with 1 row of 4 colors. This hat can be challenging for a beginner. I highly recommend taking the extra time to knit a lining fo...
Knitting: Poncho
I recently acquired an Addi Express knitting machine and am slowly making my way through the various items that can be created. Having mastered tubes, I thought a poncho would be a good first attempt at flat panel knitting. Of course, any circular knitting machine with a similar gauge and at least 19 needles can be used. Circular or double poin...

Hippos have a lovable grace and mystery about them. This hat is a tribute to the hippo! Use some of the suggested colors or customize the colors to make...

The latest addition to my woodland stranded knitting collection is a slithery snake. With kids interested in the Gruffalo, Harry Potter, and Wings of Fire, snakes seemed a logical choice! My son LOVES Bruni, so I watched a Disney tutorial on drawing Bruni and came up with this chart. Although my finished project here is for a hat, the chart could be used on a variety of items and also works well as a crochet chart. I admit this is a challenging knit with so many colors and long runs. Best to knit a lining to cover it all up. Hap...

Moving across country I was delighted to see Turtle Crossing signs along many of the back roads. I have yet to see a turtle along the road, but I know several people who carry blankets in their cars to drape over a turtle to move them less stressfully. Here is a hat to honor the turtle. As with my other stranded creature hats, this hat is knit ...

Slow moving, playful, and with a rumbly in their tumbly, I can’t help but love bears. I’m not crazy. I’m not going to run off and hug one….but I might just wear one on my head! This pattern works by repeating 3 or 4 bear patterns around the crown of your head with a complimentary tree or snowflake motif above or below the bears. Play around wit...

Charmander and Charizard are favourite characters in our house. These hats are adorable, but not for the faint of heart as you’ll have to manage several different colours at a time. I highly recommend taking the extra time to knit a lining for this hat to hide the long runs. Make sure to check the gauge on this one, as it’s easy to pull your kn...

I’ve developed a bit of a love for stranded knitting and thought I would try a hat that would mimic my son’s favorite character. The hat uses several colors (as many as four) in a row, with a few long runs. I can’t promise you won’t start questioning your life choices halfway through this hat while trying not to tangle 4 strands of yarn (I cert...

A llama or alpaca hat for those trendy touque wearers out there! The hats here use a nice durable washable worsted weight yarn to ensure they hold up to all your cold-weather activities. These hats look amazing, but if you’re not zooming down a toboggan hill at least once a week, you’re not wearing it right!
