Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
You’ll wrap yourself in lace and texture paradise with a Norwood Shawl. Plain stockinette gives you permission to relax into your project, lace panels challenge you with compound cables that really pop, and dip stitch textures let a hand dyed yarn shine.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Take a classic triangular shawl shape and send it on a slightly assymetrical path with Ridgemont Shawl. Simple stockinette flows into fields of eyelets before settling into a lace pattern replete with twisted stitches and texture that dips into the rows beneath.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Designed to highlight the beautiful hand-dyed yarns that knitters can’t seem to resist, Overbrook Shawl combines simple lace stripes with a striking border that mimics a crochet granny square stitch. The shawl is adjustable if you prefer a wider and deeper triangle to cozy up with during cold weather.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The Venable Shawl is a crescent shape (wider at the center) with a gentle curve created by short rows.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Pulling together only knits, purls and a few simple variations, Blackbird Knob is the kind of slouchy hat you may find yourself returning to again. The meandering texture of twisted rib and garter welts is suitable for anyone on your knitting list.
Knitting: Scarf
Glady Creek Scarf is a gentle crescent-shaped scarf shaped by short rows that encourages any knitter to try new stitches and find textures that are different and pleasing to both knit and wear. Short rows are also used to create the pointed border pattern that accentuates the flower bud lace.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
With broad flat areas of flat texture highlighted by a simple lace trellis, Bistro Shawl is perfect for variegated and kettle-dyed yarns that can be difficult to appreciate in a lace shawl. The simple pattern is easy to wear and compliments many different occasions but is especially well-suited to keeping you warm enjoying a drink al fresco whe...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
The Allegheny Mountains in eastern West Virginia are a varied landscape rich with natural wonders. One of these, Dolly Sods, is geographically out of place. Situated in generally-temperate West Virginia, Dolly Sods is a high-altitude plateau with flora and fauna normally found much farther north in Canada. The “sods”, a local term for open moun...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Timber was a booming industry in Pocahontas County, West Virginia in the first half of the 19th century. Towns were built, railroads built, over a billion board feet of lumber processed, and towns died in a short period of about 60 years. Now the lumber camps, railroad and company town are a state park called Cass Scenic Railroad. One of the fe...
Knitting: Cowl
A springtime vacation in northern California’s wine country inspired Beazley Infinity Scarf, both in the stitch design and colors used for the sample. Hillsides and valleys of trellises of decades-old vines called to mind the tuck stitch, while the fresh and bright green leaves encouraged me to pull out two skeins of green yarn.
Knitting: Scarf
When the calendar slips closer to colder months, nature starts to reveal its bones and structure. What was hidden with lush greenery just months earlier now shows off its rhythmic beauty and lingering blossoms and leaves add a touch of faded glory. Cables and twists in the Ritter Park Lace Scarf form the structure f or the lace and texture that...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Plaid, or tartan, patterns always make me think of my most comfortable flannel pajamas and curling up cozy in front of a fire. While some knitted plaids can look overworked and oddly proportioned, this hat features a simplified tartan pattern utilizing two contrast colors in narrow horizontal and vertical stripes.

High above the New River in Fayette County, West Virginia soars a very long single-span bridge. The beauty of the bridge is in the symmetry of the crisscrossing steel girders and beams that hold the bridge aloft. This symmetry is reflected in the graphic lines of this scarf.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
The simplest of shapes—a tube with a hole on the side—makes an easy-to-knit pair of fingerless mitts. Knit flat and seamed together, these mitts are perfect for anyone from a beginning knitter who wants to move beyond scarves to an intermediate knitter who wants quick and easy gifts.
Knitting: Scarf
Nestled in the hills of Charleston is a meandering path known as the Carriage Trail. It winds through the trees as it climbs to the top of the hill at Sunrise Mansion. The Carriage Trail scarf features a meandering path of stockinette stitch bordered by leafy lace and pockets of star stitch.
Knitting: Scarf
Basic ribbing is thrown for a loop in this infinity scarf that never ends until you want it to. Each successive round skews the pattern by one stitch, tilting the vertical ribs and eliminating the need to keep track of row counts. Make the scarf as narrow or as wide as you desire. (Remember to adjust yardage accordingly.)
Knitting: Pillow / Cushion
Modular knitting is a very versatile technique for using small amounts of yarn from your stash. The technique involves building a project one piece at a time. This pillow project explores mitered squares as a type of modular knitting.
Knitting: Scarf
Tessuto is the best kind of scarf pattern—it looks intricate but it surprising easy to work. Each row of squares builds upon the previous and is especially effective in striped or variegated yarn. The enterprising knitter can use these instructions as a starting point for his or her own version of an entrelac scarf by varying needle size and nu...
