Originating from the Andes region of Columbia, the ruana is traditionally a ‘rectangular, sleeveless, knee length, woven outer garment slit down the front from neck to hem’. This shorter, narrower, more delicate version is worked in a mosaic crochet technique and is a useful extra layer.

A large rectangular wrap with diamond shaped ends and long removable tassels. The diamond theme continues in the all over filet pattern. And it’s blue! The stitches are simple and there is a gentle rhythm to the pattern.

A simple but versatile afghan block which starts as a traditional granny square before wandering off to something a little more fanciful. It is relatively straightforward and works up quickly.
