Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat, worked completely in a 2x2 rib, is very stretchy! It may seem like it is worked straight, without decreases for a very long time, but a lot of this length is consumed once the hat is stretched over your head! Especially if your head circumference is on the small side, start checking the length on your head around the 6” mark. Begin cr...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The sparkly yarn I used in this pattern reminds me of the twinkle of holiday lights. The pattern is fairly straightforward if you understand basic 1x1 cables and the use of twisted stitches. Luckily, neither of those are terribly difficult if you’re looking to expand your stitch library. If you go down a needle size -or two- you could probably ...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This simple variation on a rib makes for an easy to memorize two row repeat that has a great texture, while using only knit and purl stitches. Both written and charted directions are given. It looks nice in any yarn, solid or multi color, and knits up fast. I think you will agree that this “mistake rib” makes for a “perfect” sock!
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I fell in love with a few skeins of sock yarn, decide to make a shawl out of them, but find I always have partial skeins leftover. I wanted to turn them into socks, but I’m never sure what pattern to use. This pattern is a great one to use up three coordinating partial skeins. If you’re brave you might even consider knitting this easy rib patte...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
At a friend’s request, I am working up this pattern for a fair isle beer mug beanie with a short colorwork chart, based on a pattern that is no longer available. The color chart is 6 stiches wide, and is repeated 17 times per round. The chart is 13 rows long and is only worked once. This is the only chart used in this pattern, so this would be ...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I have been staring at my first skein of speckled sock yarn for months, but couldn’t find any pattern that I really liked that would look good. After much debate, I decided that I would just make my own pattern. While the yarn is the star, these could be knit in a solid color and the pattern would really pop! There are several small (2x1 and 1x...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This is a simple, easy to memorize pattern that will look good with just about any skein of fingering weight yarn. I have written it for use with 2 circular needles, although it will easily adapt to any method - simply keep the stitches divided in multiples of 7 for the leg. I have recently started knitting socks two at a time, and this pattern...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
As soon as I saw this lace pattern, I knew I had to adapt it into a sock pattern. It may look complex, but it’s actually a pretty easy pattern to memorize. There are no cables, but instead several knit - 3 or 4 - together’s per pattern repeat. I’m usually not a fan of these stitches, but there aren’t a ton, so it didn’t bother me.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
The gentle curves throughout this pattern remind me of waves cresting and crashing on shore. They are knit from the cuff down, and have a traditional slip stitch heel flap, with a little change that makes picking up the stitches on the sides particularly easy. This lace pattern has a few cable details, and is written using charts. Size small fi...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I love spiral sock patterns, so it made sense that my first pattern would be one! I have had people test knit it as well. This pattern and the yarn for size Large (Dyed in the Wool Company) reminded me of candy, hence the name of the pattern. Even though the sock spirals, there is a lot of rib stitch, so these socks are very stretchy…hence the ...
