This decorative stocking is a quick knit, and uses the Turkish cast on for a toe-up construction. More about Turkish knitting and stockings in particular in the blog post, T is for Turkey. Use lace weight yarn as described, or whatever you like.

Pattern is in three files (use Ravelry download link, above): directions, plus two different alphabets, one for the hat and one for the earflaps (including ampersand and question mark).
