Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
I mean cats don’t need to understand Hygge. They spend half the day curled up relaxing anyway, but most of the rest of us could learn something from the Danish concept of well-being through coziness, relaxation, and chilling with your friends and family (especially on a long winter’s night). So why not get started by making yourself some cozy s...

I designed this afghan for my brother’s wedding present when I couldn’t find any existing patterns that were just, you know, quite what I had in mind. Some were close, but maybe they weren’t the right size and it would be a pain to alter, or weren’t reversible, or frankly snowflakes just didn’t seem like the right motif for a wedding present.

With a nickname like Strider, eventually I needed to make Aragorn some socks. They would need to be manly, but with a certain depth and resonance. These socks are mainly practical, the ribs give stretch and the slipped-stitch heel provides reinforcement, but the cabled-diamond badge on the outer ankles provides a beautiful bit of decoration for...

I know I am reading a truly excellent piece of Fantasy when I find myself wondering about the people that do not exist in the story, the background people that make the world but never the lore. I always wonder about the people who designed and built the inspiring and lovely dwellings of the elves. Did Elrond think up the beauty of Rivendell or...

This pattern was initially inspired by fiber given to me by my aunt, who owns an alpaca farm (Sun-Spiced Alpacas in central Florida, for anyone interested in tracking down this fiber. The alpaca’s name is Tiffany). It was long staple suri alpaca of surpassing quality, with a softness and smooth luster more like silk than most commercially avail...
Knitting: Coffee / Tea Pot
This tea cozy was inspired by the hero of The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. It’s a bachelor-style tea cozy (meaning that you can add tea and pour cup after cup and possibly even rinse it out and make more tea all without having to take the tea cozy off your teapot, because bachelor’s can’t be bothered, or so the thinking goes) for Hobbiton’s favorite ...
