I wrote this pattern first for my daughter’s American Girl doll. Then I expanded it to fit her. The adult version has not been test knitted (yet). For the youth version I used 3.5 balls for the tail and half a ball for the fin.

This project began because I was looking for a knit pattern for an 18” doll mermaid tail. I could not find one I liked and most are currently available in crochet. My daughter and her friends love their mermaid dolls!
