Knitting: Scarf
While this is a basic brioche scarf, it gains some extra sophistication through the use of i-cord edges all the way around. Watching the color changes of Classic Shades Frenzy unfold keeps your interest as you knit, and the fabric is so, so squishy!

This two-color cowl uses two different techniques to fade from the main color to the contrast color and back. Using Baby Alpaca Worsted Collage from Plymouth Yarns gives the soft and blurry effect of an Impressionist painting. At the stated gauge, two skeins of yarn will just yield two cowls by reversing the main and contrast colors.

During intermission of the Red Curtain Revue presented by Central Washington University’s Theatre Department this fall, I surreptitiously took notes on a scarf worn by a young woman a few seats from me. This easy-to-knit cap was inspired by Abundant Earth Fiber’s lovely yarn. A simple traveling twist mimics the look of a larger cable, and is stretchy enough to accommodate a range of noggins. Weave in ends with care, and you have a fully reversible hat!

Mini skein packs are such a fun way to experience a dyer’s color vision. This pattern is designed to use all the yardage in a five-color, 400 yard pack, but leaving the narrow stripes for last provides flexibility if your yardage or number of colors is different. The chevron sequence provides a nice bit of interest every four rows, with plain r...

This one-skein cowl uses a beautiful tonal aran weight yarn. Garter stitch peaks suggest the mountains in the distance, and slipped stitches combined with directional increases and decreases mirror the easy curve of the interstate through eastern Washington state. Inspired by my daily drive between home and Yarn Folk--my yarn shop in Ellensburg...
