Sukkalanka – 100% Wool Sock Yarn, 50g

is a completely traceable strong sport weight sock yarn spun from wool that comes from only 2 farms, hand-dyed with only natural dyes: 100 % local wool with no plastics / synthetic fibers.

The yarn is a mix of Finnsheep wool for softness and crossbreed (Texel/Ryggia/Suffolk) wool for strength and durability, and with a high twist to give extra strength. The yarn has been subjected to rub testing which showed good resistance to wear. A slight felting during the use gives it extra strenth. Knitted on 2,5 – 3 mm needles, this will give a good, dense fabric for socks, strong enough to resist the extra wear that socks require. As the yarn has such a high twist, it is much denser than a regular plied yarn and therefore heavier, with less meterage to weight: 50g / ~100m. A skein of 50g makes one ankle high sock in size 42, but you might need 3 skeins for a pair of average sized socks with colorwork.

Working with bigger needles, the yarn is suitable also for other projects.

The yarn has been dyed on a light gray base and is offered in 12 lightly heathered dyed shades, as well as the undyed gray.

Note that this yarn is hand dyed and differences between batches do occur. The pictures are to be treated as guidelines to the shade.
