Our Zwartbles BFL Blend is 2017’s version of the Zwartbles Mohair Blend we produced in 2016. We weren’t able to source British Mohair in 2017 and didn’t want to use Mohair which came from outwith the UK - after a lot of consideration we decided that BFL would be the best substitute - and it has produced a lovely yarn which has many of the properties of our original Zwartbles Mohair Blend. It will work well as the Steel Grey yarn used in WOODS (Making Stories) Puzzlewood Mittens by Ruth Werwai .

This yarn blend brings out the best attributes of the two wools. The yarn has a plumpness and beautiful deep colour from the Zwartbles and a slight shine and lovely drape from the BFL.

The Zwartbles comes from Hedgefield Zwartbles near Beauly in the Scottish Highlands and British Bluefaced Leicester. The wool is spun at The Border Mill in the Scottish Borders.

Black Isle Yarns produces local, sustainable and natural yarns. We source wool from special local sheep flocks and create single farm yarns and unique blends.

Our yarns come in their beautiful natural undyed colours and in limited batches of glorious colours naturally dyed at home on the Black Isle.
