Castlemilk Moorit DK
This woollen-spun yarn is nicely bulky and feels reasonably soft in the ball, but when knitted up it is a revelation! The short fibres (and we have chosen the finest we could find) create a lovely plush velvety fabric, which will soften and gently felt together with wear to create light but very warm garments. Very special!
The Castlemilk Moorit sheep was created early in the twentieth century to graze parkland and was bred from Manx and Moorit Shetland ewes and wild small Mouflon rams, to create a small sheep with horns and a short, fairly fine coat. After nearly dying out, the breed was rescued and preserved by Joe Henson at the Cotswold Farm Park. See Sue’s book, Pure Wool for more information and patterns.
