Mokosh Fingering
100% organic merino wool from France - learn about the plant it is dyed with!
This yarn is soft and squishy. It is highly recommended for babies and children, next to skin wear, delicate shawls and light weight sweaters. With each colour comes a handprinted illustration of the plant and a written note about the plant. You will learn about the medicinal properties, mythology and symbolism. There is also a little recipe or do it yourself tutorial for each plant. All plant material that was used was collected by myself around our house, an old water mill, in northern Germany. The only mordant that i used was ashes from the camp fire.
The yarn is made from wool of the Merino d’ Arles sheep from Southern France, which are guided to the mountain pastures every summer following a centuries-old tradition. It is said to be one of the softest European wool. Spun in Great Britain. Guaranteed good for environment, sheep, and humans.
The yarn is a limited edition. Referring to the Celtic holidays, there will be a new batch of yarn every three month with 5 colours included. The first batch was dyed around Samhain in November 2017. I named the yarn Mokosh after the Slavic goddess of soil, fertility and spinning. The Celts settled amongst other areas also in France. In the area where i live now there used to live Slavs. Therefore i chose these names and connections.
