About the Name
The Isle of Avalon is the place where Morgan le Fay takes King Arthur after he has been mortally wounded during his last battle against Mordred. The stories say that Arthur waits in Avalon until it is time for his return, when England needs him again.

The place itself is quite mysterious and no one is sure exactly where it might have been located. The most accepted place is Glastonbury Tor, which rises above the landscape and could be considered isle-like because of the swampy grounds beneath it (which also causes mist around the bottom). Marion Zimmer Bradley made this connection in her novel, The Mists of Avalon.
