About the Yarn Base
Gawain is a yarn that loves texture – its 3-ply structure and tight twist is ideal for stitch patterns involving cables, twists, and purls. It’s round, bouncy, and fun – but still has a soft side with its fine merino content. Let your needles put a twist on your next project with Gawain as their champion.

About the Name
Gawain is the son of King Lot (of Orkney) and Morgause, who was the daugher of Igraine, Arthur’s mother, by her first husband. Therefore, Gawain and his brothers (Agravain, Gaheris, Gareth, and Mordred) are Arthur’s nephews. Because Arthur has no children of his own, Gawain is technically Arthur’s heir.

Gawain has a number of adventures and is a character whose characteristics change depending on the story being told. In some stories, he’s the model of knightly virtue and in others, he’s a ladies’ man and makes many blunders due to his hotheadedness.

It is his inability to let go of his need for vengeance against Lancelot (who accidentally slew two of Gawain’s brothers when rescuing Guenevere from the stake) that leads to Arthur’s downfall.
