High-quality merino wool from South Africa meets Yak! Merino Yak has a very special mélange effect, created by the natural brown color of undyed yak fibers. Yak wool has particularly fine fibers for enjoyable, soft wearing comfort and it is also very warm but also lightweight. It looks particularly attractive in small stranded and plait patterns.

Additional information
Yak fibers are - similar to cashmere fibers – fine but voluminous. They can absorb up to a third of their own weight in moisture without feeling wet. At the same time, they have particularly high thermal qualities. Perhaps this is why REGIA PREMIUM Merino Yak is so popular with knitters.
However, because the natural and untreated yak fibers are short, they are unfortunately also prone to pilling. Pilling is caused by friction and is exacerbated by heat and moisture. In other words, when socks made of REGIA PREMIUM Merino Yak are worn for hiking, they are exposed to more wear and tear than in everyday life. And that will be visible.
Once pilling is there (which can never be completely prevented), it is of course much more noticeable in light colors than in dark ones.
However, this is not lack of quality.
We generally recommend that you leave the fluff where it is, and only remove it if you really find it to be too annoying. Occasionally, you may carefully shave it off with a lint remover. It is not advisable to brush your knitting, as this will further increase lint and fluff.
You should wash your precious socks (or any knitted item made of REGIA PREMIUM Merino Yak) on the delicate cycle (or wool cycle or hand wash cycle, if your washing machine features these settings) at a maximum of 30°C, using a wool detergent and turned inside out to protect the delicate surface. It goes without saying that no fabric softener should be used.

Das Garn besitzt einen angenehmen, weichen Tragekomfort und ist sehr wärmend. Es wirkt besonders hübsch in kleinen Fair Isle- und Zopfmustern.

Yak-Fasern sind – ähnlich wie Kaschmir-Fasern – fein, aber voluminös. Sie können bis zu einem Drittel ihres Eigengewichts an Feuchtigkeit aufnehmen, ohne sich naß anzufühlen. Gleichzeitig verfügen sie über besonders hohe Wärmeeigenschaften. Beides mögen Gründe dafür sein, dass REGIA PREMIUM Merino Yak bei Stricker:innen so beliebt ist.

Weil die naturbelassenen und unbehandelten Yak-Fasern jedoch kurz sind, sind sie leider auch anfällig für Fusselbildung (pilling). Diese entsteht durch Reibung und wird durch Wärme und Feuchtigkeit verstärkt. Anders formuliert: wenn Socken aus REGIA PREMIUM Merino Yak zum Wandern getragen werden, werden sie stärker beansprucht als im Alltag. Und das hinterlässt Spuren. Wenn Knötchen und Fussel erstmal da sind, (was sich tatsächlich nie ganz verhindern lassen wird) fällt es in hellen Farbtönen natürlich deutlich mehr auf, als in dunklen.
Dies ist jedoch ausdrücklich kein Qualitätsmangel.

Grundsätzlich empfehlen wir, die austretenden Fasern zu belassen, und diese erst, wenn sie wirklich als zu störend empfunden werden, abzunehmen oder mit einem handelsüblichen Fusselrasierer vorsichtig abzurasieren. Es ist nicht ratsam, die Socken aufzubürsten, da dies den Faseraustritt zusätzlich verstärkt. Waschen sollte man die edlen Socken (bzw. jedes Strickstück aus REGIA PREMIUM Merino Yak) im Schon- oder Wollwaschgang bei maximal 30°C, unter Verwendung eines Wollwaschmittels und auf links gedreht, um die empfindliche Oberfläche zu schützen. Dass kein Weichspüler verwendet werden sollte, versteht sich von alleine.
