Supreme Possum Merino’s blend of possum fur and merino wool gives a range of lightweight, warm and hard wearing yarns suitable for either hand knitting or weaving.

  • Feels like cashmere (only yummier)
  • Hard wearing
  • Light weight
  • Warm in winter, cool in summer.
  • 5% of every purchase goes to saving New Zealand’s native birds in particular the kiwi and kokako.

Supreme Possum Merino balls are approximately 50 grams and 100 metres in length. An average adult sweater only take 10 balls. The yarn will not pill and it is one of the warmest known fibres around. Needle size 5mm (US6). Larger skeins may have been sold.

Recommended tension is 18 stitches per 10cm (4 inch) on 5mm (US8) needles. Wash the garment upon completion, as this will bring the possum fur to the outside. Gentle hand wash and lay flat to dry. Make allowance for a small amount of lengthways shrinkage after the first hand wash.

40% possum, 50% Merino and 10% silk

The ‘other’ fiber is Australian possum, an introduced pest in New Zealand. The fluff of the possum makes a halo which gives the yarn a heavier weight, reflected in the recommended gauge.
