Organic Shetland Handspun

I handspun this rustic yarn with love, on my vintage Ashford spinning wheel from a mix of organic Shetland wool in various colours.
Shetland sheep live on the northernmost islands of Britain and have lived in this environment for over a thousand years.
Wool grown by Shetland sheep comes in 11 different natural colours!
About a third of sheep breeds that exist today are in danger of extinction due to pressures from large scale industry for uniformity in wool production.
Any sheep breed that does not produce perfect white wool is frowned upon by big processing mills.
The small scale farmers of these heritage and conservation breeds turn to the small mills and the handspinning community for their livelihoods.
Help support genetic diversity by purchasing fiber and yarn made from the fibers of these endangered sheep breeds.
The yarn has a nice bounce and elasticity so it will hold its shape well when knitted or woven. It’s smooth & thick and thin.
It is medium in handle, it would be great for making beanies, mittens and socks that will be able to stand up to lots of wear, however I would not recommend it for scarves. This also means that the fabric made from this yarn would be more durable than one made of softer wool.
