My Silky Alpaca Linen is a beautifully soft, sheeny and luxurious 50% Baby Alpaca, 25% Silk and 25% Linen. This is a non-superwash yarn. The skeins are 3 ply and 400m/437.5yds per 100g skein of fingering/4 ply/sock weight yarn. This yarn is dyed using acid dyes. This base takes colours in a more subtle and washed out way than they would appear on other bases due to the partial plant fibre content (that do not take the acid dyes during the dyeing process).

My Baby Alpaca is sourced from the Peruvian Andes, from smaller farms whose way of life is their animals. The mill works closely with the farmers. Alpaca farming also has a low environmental impact.

The term “baby” relates to the grade and quality of the fibre. Baby fleece is the softest and silkiest part of the fleece.

Alpaca contains no lanolin and is hypoallergenic, as is linen. Silk is low allergenic. This makes this yarn suitable for baby knits and people with sensitive skin.

Alpaca also has unique thermal properties because of the microscopic air pockets found in the fibre. It does not pill, is smooth and silky and extremely warm, but breathes brilliantly with great moisture resistance and is naturally flame-retardant. Combined with silk and linen, it has a low flammability.

Silk is smooth, shiny, soft and luxurious, where linen is cool and fresh against the skin.

This blend has a superb drape, is ridiculously smooth, sheeny and luxurious.

This blend would make the most wonderful drapey tops or jumpers, perfect for layering. It would also be brilliant for shawls, scarfs and any product where you would like to have a luxurious feel and appearance. It is suitable for garments for all ages.

I would recommend hand washing your finished product in cool water and laying it to dry flat. Do not tumble dry.
