With aching hands I am pleased to say that this week I have finished Miss J’s stunning Babette blanket!
It has been a long haul…I first started this blanket back in November 2009, ripped it, started again in March 2010, it has had several hibernation’s but I have worked reasonably solidly on it over the past two months.
I have added an additional 11th panel to the original pattern as I prefer a rectangle blanket instead of square and it now fits her bed perfectly. (king single, so basically a double bed blanket size)
I will have to weight the finished blanket to get some idea of how much yarn I have used….but it is heavy!
This has certainly been a project filled with much love, I hope that she will sleep soundly under the many stitches created by me for years to come.
Mar 23 2010:
I ended up ripping back and starting again using a ‘chainless’ turning chain method. The chains and new colour joins were just too obvious.
I am now up to starting ‘block’ 5 of squares.
Nov 15 2009:
I have been collecting Cotton Fleece colours for the past 6 months for this project.
Loved the idea of a portable project but couldn’t work out how to lug around 1.7kg of yarn so over the weekend I sat down and measured the amounts that I need for each of the two round squares and bundled them up into little mini skeins.
(yes…I know, I have a problem. I guess I shouldn’t mention that I also have the whole pattern on a spreadsheet with all of my colours set out…)
I am making myself skein, crochet, weave in ends a small batch each time so that I don’t have hours of finishing left a the end.
Really can’t say enough about Cotton Fleece and the don’t get me started on the colours….!
I will admit this is a long term project but I would possibly like it finished this winter.
Will see.
