I have spun commercially dyed Wensleydale top, but it was so long ago I don’t really recall. The stuff I am spinning now is from my own carded batts. I pull a strip off the batt and attenuate it a little to line up the fibers a little better and make it more manageable. I am spinning with my slowest pulley/whorl and a decent amount of take up. My end result yarn goal is DK to worsted weight in a 2-ply.
I started a swatch already since I am participating in the KnitBritish podcast group breed swatch-along. LOVE this! The non-garter stitch parts of the swatch have an undulation from the underlying crimp in the fiber. The fiber crimp radius is bigger than the stitch radius and the fiber seems to want to return to its curly locks! So cool. Once it is finished, I will be “test-driving” the swatch through several washes and wearings to observe and report on its changes.

I have washed the swatch and blocked it. The stockinette was much more curled than stockinette usually is. This is very resilient feeling yarn. Not wiry in the negative sense, but it has very strong memory of its crimp and wants to return to that curl.
The cable shows up better in the photo than I expected. Very subtle, though, and not worth the effort of doing cables on dark yarn! I was pretty sure that would be the case, but wanted to try.
