2014 019 09 08 UPDATE: Replacement needle shipped fast, and this beauty is finished. Twenty grams remain from the second skein. Added a bit of white vinegar to the water while soaking before blocking as there was quite a lot of color bleed from this yarn. It’s so deep red so not a problem of color fade (in fact, I wouldn’t mind if the color was not quite so deep). Blocked over 11” blocking plate (wished I would have had a 12” blocking plate for this beauty), but the hat is a nice size and fits very well.
MODS made:
Changed the decreases to flow beautifully into a K1, P1 ribbing … giving a more professionally finished look to the hat than continuing cables into a band as instructed in the pattern (in my professional opinion …).
- Row 63 - K7, P1, P2 tog - around
- Row 64 - K7, P2 - around
Ribbing
- Row 65 - worked K1, P1 ribbing around, purling 2 together at each 2 ps.
Changed to US #3 needles
* Rows 66 - 72 - K1, P1 ribbing around
Stretchy bind off with US #4 needles
Love the cables and lace look … blocking as a tam, fits well …

2014 08 29 UPDATE: Well darn, my needle broke. This project was going so fast too … no worries, have already ordered a new needle … only causing a few days delay in getting this beautiful hat finished. Loving this yarn so much, feels wonderful and makes such a perfect fabric for this pattern. Just fuzzy enough … oh so warm …

Beautiful yarn, beautiful project …
Super easy pattern! Normally I prefer to follow charts … but this time, the written directions are so short and sweet, line by line, it’s actually easier to follow than the chart. I’m amazed …
Making size Large with heavy worsted weight yarn on size US #4, 3.5 mm needles. Working K1, P1 ribbing, and super stretchy bind off with contrasting dark gray yarn of the same maker. Size is great …
Hat is gorgeous!!!!
