2014 10 24 UPDATE: Having soooooo much fun with the construction of this hat! It’s all easy, been-done-before stuff, but the mix of Latvian braid, slipping stitches and cabling between the two rows of braid makes this a most entertaining knit. Definitely not boring! Loving the results too.

Finished the band and liked it so much was tempted to bind off right there and then and keep it for myself (it’s thick and cozy, super warm and will be perfect in the mountains snowshoeing) … but this is a surprise for the man … so I refrained from breaking the yarn … and continue on with the making of this beautiful hat … lots more cabling to be done. A most fun knit!!!!

Eastward, westward - which will it be? The man, a biologist, and I may be relocating for his work … to the east side … or we could stay here on the west side … or it could be further north … or even south … so many options.

This hat will be perfect where the winters are long and bitter cold, yet wonderful right here too. A wonderful surprise for a hard working scientist either way. I’ve plenty of both yarns in my stash, I do wish I had time to make a matching hat for myself too. Okay, one for me is on the list …
