I wanted to make a little hat assorted to my dress to wear at a wedding ceremony…
I used some rafia yarn and tried this pattern that is worked top/down and allows to make any size of hats.
I only worked in garter st for the crown and stockinette st for the side.
I made a crown of 17cm diameter as I had calculated it was going to give me a hat of 54cm circumference, which is my usual size.
Then I worked in stockinette until side was 8cm high, and bound-off.
I’ll wear the hat with the edge rolled.
As the rafia strands were very short and allowed me to work only one round before joining another, I used magic knots all along and it worked not so bad.
I didn’t dare washing the rafia so I tried a soft blocking by laying it over a cake baking moule for a few days.
