Basing width needed from the cowl, since I’m using larger needles than pattern calls for.

CO 15 sts, German Twisted Cast On.
1 row purl, 1 row knit, 1 row purl, then start cable repeat.
8 cable repeats.
Picked up 68 sts for hat crown.
2 extra rows stockinette before crown decreases.
Decreased down to 12 sts.

Buttons sewn on with white embroidery floss -- the yarn was too bulky, and a single ply of the yarn wasn’t strong enough.
