Notes

Going for a Small - my usual size. But I have a larger than average bust, so I hope it will fit. I might enlarge the cups.

I’m knitting in the round - I hate unnecessary seaming, and knitting is fasting than purling.

Diminished 4 sts twice in the side rib bands to make a bit of shaping for the waist. Increasing back at the end of third/beginning of fourth pattern repeat.

Did 8 rows in ribbing.

I ended up increasing the cups because they were waaaay too small. I increased 4 sts (two more repeats of the yos in the centre), knitted two rows, then decreased twice more to original size. And I will still have to stretch it a bit when blocking. But I think it will fit me.

I’m waiting to block it before I sew the straps in.

Afterthoughts:

The sample item in the photo looked really nice, but on my actual body it had several problems.

Firstly, the lace pattern is too stretchy widthwise, so it is actually a bit large for me, even though I haven’t stretched it at all widthwise, only lengthwise, in order to make it long enough. It was cosy before blocking, but after blocking (despite not having stretched the ribbing), it became way too wide.

I don’t like that it doesn’t have any shaping at all (whereas on the mannequin it looks like it’s shaped in the waist). I added some shaping, and that helped a bit.

As for the cups, they are unbelievably small, I believe the smallest size is an A cup. On top of that, it’s not stretchy, unlike the body, so there isn’t much you can do about during blocking. Despite having added extra increases and extra rows, AND having blocked them aggressively, they are still a tad small. The only solution I’ve found was to pass a satin ribbon under the ribbing and tie it up. The ribbing is now adding to the bust, and this is the only way I have enough coverage on the bust, AND at the same time it tightened a bit the ribbing and underbust.

I tried diminishing less in during the fourth repeat, in order to have more sts for the cups, but that made the underbust way too wide, so I had to unravel and do all the decreases. So I wasn’t sure how to make the cups larger. I did extra increases and rows, but it wasn’t enough.

I think the pattern is not very well conceived, and it needs several adjustments and trials for a perfect fit. I give it two stars.

I’ve waited a long time to take pictures while wearing it – it actually looks really good on me!!. But I’m terribly busy at this time, as I’m moving to Taiwan this week (yay!!!). Maybe I’ll do it there.
