Finding the directions really hard to understand. And there are quite a few errors at the beginning of the rows that need working out.

I used these changes to make the beginning of the rounds look better …

Round 3: slip stitch into next ch1 space, chain 3, 2dc, ch1, * 3dc in next ch, ch1 *

Round 6: change colour. ch6, * ….

A few of the other rounds I slip stitched into the chain space before starting the round (can’t remember which rounds that was on).

For the border I did
sc, ch7, sc in corner ch1 and
6sc, ch3, sc in same stitch across the sides

Then 6dc, ch2, 6dc in the ch7 corners and
skip 3 sc, sc, skip 3sc, 4dc, ch1 4dc in each chain 3 loop.
