My MIL wants a plain brown sweater with collar and pockets, no shaping. I wanted to find something that was a bit interesting so I actually finish the thing! I love the look of Burr and plan to knit one (with shaping and shoulder detail) for myself.
10/23/12 ~ finished the back. Started the sleeves (2 at a time).
12/9/12 ~ finished sleeves a while ago. Starting fronts. I really wish I had knit the fronts and back together as one piece. Keep putting other more fun knits ahead of this one!
12/11/12 ~ pockets: When fronts were 5” put 22 sts on holder starting 10sts from center fronts. 2x2 rib on 3.75mm needles for 7rows. Bind off. Knit lining about 3” in length increasing 4 sts to make it a bit wider.
12/15/12 ~ started button bands. There must be an easy way to pick up a specified number of stitches along the fronts evenly ….
This collar gave me fits. Had to rip it out twice. Once because I messed up on the short rows and the second time because I couldn’t for the life of me make the yarn overs at the end of each short row look nice when I knit it together with the next stitch. Ripped it out and did wrap and turn instead. Much happier with how it looks.
Things I Would Change:
- Knit fronts and back in one piece to armholes.
- Pick up stitches around armhole and knit the sleeve downwards using short rows to shape the cap. I am never happy with how my seaming looks. Should probably take a class on how to do set-in sleeves :)
- Use wrap and turn for short rows on collar
- Body on this one is 10” before starting sleeves. I would make it an inch longer (11”) for me.
