Square #1 for Square a Week CAL with CCC group on facebook

Since I’m trying to use up yarn from my stash and most of it is worsted weight and very little is DK, AND from reading comments from others in the group saying it is coming out smaller than 12”, I decided to just do this square in worsted weight yarn with an H (5.0 mm) hook. I figure I can just adapt by leaving off rows if necessary or I’ll turn it into a pillow.

Rows 9-10: using Bernat Baby Coordinates doubled

Row 12 was looking kinda funny too me…. like a square swallowed a circle only the circle was bigger so it looks like a circle with corners. Weird. So I made some changes. I’m sure there is such a thing as a US half treble stitch like the half double that pulls through the three loops at once…. anyway, I’m calling it that (htr) -- yo twice, insert hook into next stitch and bring up a loop (4 loops on hook now), yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through last three loops)

So here is what I did for this row.
8 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, htr, tr >(tr, tr, c2, tr, tr) tr, htr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, 13 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, htr, tr < only 5 sc the last time around before joining.

So not perfect, but closer to a square than before. I’m about 10” at this point.

Okay, I did end up with 12” with worsted weight yarn and didn’t have to leave off any rows.

YAY!

I really do like this pattern. Makes me happy.
