I had a MOTH ATTACK! How I fixed it, on my blog.

Sept 22 New pics to show how I changed the neck stitch… Also! For those who are interested in how to fix bad yoke sizing judgement, you’ll see a pic with an arrow pointing to my armpit. Sexy, I know, but the extra-small was a bad choice for my 36” bust (a.k.a: arms not moving), so I added width by inserting little knit diamonds… voila, movement! To do this, cast-on 1 stitch, increase 1 st each edge every RS row until desired width, decrease 1 st each edge every RS row to one stich again. For an even faster slope, inc/dec every row. It might be enough. Sew diamond into area where sleeve seam meets side seam, matching widest point to underarm. NOTE: It only works with flat knitted pieces.

Sept 3

MODS:

  1. I did a provisional cast-on for the sleeves (thank goodness), and designed a fair isle pattern to match the yoke once I saw how short they were. I made a folded hem by knitting a purl row on the right side to make a fold line. I then decreased significantly for about 1/2 inch (because stockinette flares out), and then sewed the hem under.

  2. I extended the length of the body significantly, 4-5 inches.

  3. I changed the yoke pattern a bit by adding extra ‘crosses’ in one motif. For those doing dark colors on white, the pattern ended up looking like little graves with crosses on them! Cool, if you want some cemetery charm, but…

  4. I want much less stitches on the neck, 80 is too much… I decreased to 70. After disliking the looseness of the k1p1 neck, I re-did it by knitting the k1 through the back loop. What a difference!

ERRORS:

  1. The body and sleeves should end at row 8 instead of row 4, before armhole shaping. In this case, I would suggest beginning immediately with row 1 of the yoke instead of knitting a whole row to put the whole thing together. This makes the cables smoother.

  2. Row 9 and Row 24 of the yoke chart need K2tog markings.

Aug 8: Trying extra-small with a larger gauge, holding two strands of yarn together. I have had three colors of Indiecita from a trip to Chile for a year now, and I’m happy to find a yoke sweater that only uses three colors. Usually there are 6 or something.
